1. Privacy Policy
The protection of your private data is important to us. We process personal data that was gathered during your visit of our Online Offers confidentially and only in accordance with statutory regulations.
Personal data consists of all information related to an identified or identifiable natural person, this includes, e.g. names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, contractual master data and contract accounting, which is an expression of a person's identity. We collect, process and use personal data (including IP addresses) only when there is either a statutory legal basis to do so or you have given your consent to the processing or use of personal data concerning this matter.
In such cases as you are using online services, such as the online application form, we will inform you about the specific data processing regulations that will apply here. In case you are contacting us with specific requests, your data will be treated strictly confidentially and will not be passed on to third parties. Personal data is processed in accordance with applicable data-protection legislation, and only to the extent required to enable us to reply to your query.
According to legal provisions, the Stiftung Internationaler Karlspreis zu Aachen will be happy to inform you whether and which personal data has been stored by us. For any requests, please contact us at info@karlspreis.de.
We reserve the right to change our privacy policy should this be necessary due to technical developments. Please make sure you have the latest version. If fundamental changes are made to this privacy policy, we will post them on our website.

Social Plugins
In our Online Offers we use social plugins from various social networks; these are individually described in this section. During the usage of the plugins, your internet browser establishes a direct connection to the respective social networks’ servers. This way, the respective provider receives information that your internet browser has accessed from the respective site of our Online Offers, even if you do not have a user account with this provider or are currently not logged into this account. Log files (including the IP address) are, in this case, directly transmitted from your internet browser to a server of the respective provider and might be stored there. The provider or its server may be located outside the EU or the EEA (e.g., in the United States).
The plugins are standalone extensions by social network providers. For this reason, we are unable to influence the scope of data collected and stored by them.
Purpose and scope of the collection, the continued processing and usage of data by the social network as well as your respective rights and setting options to protect your privacy can be found by consulting the respective social network's data protection notices.
Twitter Plugins
Our website uses so-called social plugins of the microblogging service Twitter, which is operated by Twitter Inc. 1355 Market St, Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA (hereafter 'Twitter'). The plugins are marked with a Twitter logo, for example in the form of a blue 'Twitter bird'. An overview of the Twitter plugins and their appearance can be found here: https://twitter.com/about/resources/buttons
When you access a page of our website that contains such a plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection to Twitter's servers. The content of the plugin is transmitted directly from Twitter to your browser and integrated into the page. The integration gives Twitter the information that your browser has called up the corresponding page of our website, even if you do not have a Twitter profile or are not currently logged in to Twitter. This information (including your IP address) is transmitted directly from your browser to a Twitter server in the USA and stored there.
If you are logged in to Twitter, Twitter can immediately associate your visit to our website with your Twitter account. If you interact with the plugins, for example by pressing the 'Tweet' button, the corresponding information is also transmitted directly to a Twitter server and stored there. The information will also be published on your Twitter account and displayed to your contacts.
By loading the page it is possible that the browser sends personal data such as the IP address or entire cookies to the social services. You can change your privacy settings in your account settings at http://twitter.com/account/settings.
The purpose and scope of the data collection and the further processing and use of the data by Twitter as well as your relevant rights and setting options for the protection of your privacy can be found in the Twitter data protection information: https://twitter.com/privacy
If you do not want Twitter to associate the data collected via our website directly with your Twitter account, you must log out of Twitter before visiting our website. You can also completely prevent the Twitter plugins from loading with add-ons for your browser, e.g. with the script blocker 'NoScript' (http://noscript.net/).
Google Analytics
Our website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google, Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043 USA, www.google.com (“Google Analytics” or “Google”). Google Analytics employs cookies that are stored to your computer in order to facilitate an analysis of your use of the site. The information generated by these cookies, such as time, place and frequency of your visits to our site, including your IP address, is transmitted to Google’s location in the US and stored there.
In using Google Analytics our website employs the extension “anonymizeIp”. In doing so, Google abbreviates and thereby anonymizes your IP address before transferring it from EU/EEA member states. Google uses this information to analyze your use of our site, to compile reports for us on internet activity and to provide other services relating to our website.
Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law or where such third parties process this data on Google’s behalf. Google states that it will in never associate your IP address with other data held by Google. You can prevent cookies from being installed by adjusting the settings on your browser software accordingly as noted elsewhere in this Privacy Policy. You should be aware, however, that by doing so you may not be able to make full use of all the functions of our website.
Google Analytics also offers a deactivation add-on for most current browsers that provides you with more control over what data Google can collect on websites you access. The add-on tells the JavaScript (ga.js) used by Google Analytics not to transmit any information about website visits to Google Analytics. However, the browser deactivation add-on offered by Google Analytics does not prevent information from being transmitted to us or to other web analysis services we may engage.
Google Analytics also uses electronic images known as web beacons (sometimes called single pixel gifs) and are used along with cookies to compile aggregated statistics to analyze how our site is used.
You can find additional information on how to install the browser add-on referenced above at the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.
Google also offers a deactivation add-on for most popular browsers, giving you more control over what information Google collects about the websites you visit. The add-on informs Google Analytics' JavaScript (ga.js) that no information about the website visit should be transmitted to Google Analytics. However, the deactivation add-on for browsers from Google Analytics does not prevent information from being transmitted to us or to other web analytics services that we may use. For more information on installing the browser add-on, click on the link below:
https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en
If you agree that Google will link your web and app browsing history to your Google Account and use information from your Google Account to personalize ads, Google will use your information with Google Analytics data to create cross-device remarketing targeting lists. To do this, Google Analytics first collects your Google Authenticated ID on our site, which is associated with your Google Account (personally identifiable information). Google Analytics will then temporarily link your ID to your Google Analytics data in order to optimize our target groups.
If you don't agree to this, you can turn it off by setting it in the My Account section of your Google Account.
