Europe faces ongoing major challenges that demand cross-border solutions. To advance common progress in Europe and bridge the priorities of the public, European institutions, and individual state governments with oftentimes diverging perspectives, it is imperative to establish a platform for open and mutual debates that bridge scientific approaches with political developments, and explore innovative initiatives to propel European progress. By creating such a platform, we foster dialogue and knowledge transfer, and promote understanding, unity, coherence, and effective decision-making across the European landscape.
Drawing upon the long tradition of the Charlemagne Prize in generating exchange and understanding within the European context, we have proudly organised the Karlspreis Europa Summit annually in collaboration with the government of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia from 2019 to 2023.
As we transition into the future, we are committed to providing a continued platform for the exchange and discussion of European topics at our Freedom of Research: A European Summit starting from 2024 in collaboration with the Käte Hamburger Kolleg Aachen and the Knowledge Hub of RWTH Aachen University. This Summit will remain dedicated to building bridges between politics and science, fostering dialogue, and driving European advancement. Discover more about the Freedom of Research: A European Summit here and be part of shaping the future of Europe.
The Summits also serve as the pinnacle event of each research year, marking the official start and end date of the annual Charlemagne Prize Fellowship programme. At the Summit, our international Fellows present their research outcomes within the context of European political practice and public interest, and engage in vibrant debates among decision-makers from politics, science, economics, media, and society about technology development, security, social disparities, sustainability, and overarching political trends and European future challenges.
