EU Peacebuilding Efforts in West Africa: A Case Study of Guinea-Bissau
Situational Report on Peacebuilding efforts by the European Union and other international stakeholders in West Africa: Interaction of social cohesion in the case study country of Guinea-Bissau
Andreas Holzinger is currently conducting field research with the UN Peacebuilding Fund in Guinea-Bissau, where he is focussing on new approaches of peacebuilding measurements in the region. The main goal is to understand the peacebuilding approaches landscape in the regional case study context and to identify options for innovating the approach with a special attention given to the EU as an actor. As this research project is thereby focussing on Europe's responsibilities in global progress, it is part of the Charlemagne Prize Fellowship Programme 2019/2020.
Picturing current European engagement in West Africa, this first paper presents a situational report on the challenges of peacebuilding measures in this area, with special regard to the developments and the critical situation in Guinea-Bissau.
